The road to Grano de Oro from Turrialba is one of the more beautiful rides I’ve been on in Central America.  If Costa Rica is about rivers and mountains, along with beaches, the rivers and mountains notion cannot be better found.  The Pacauare River crossing, even with the new bridge, always seems to put a tinge of adventure in the air.  Looking forward to going back!  A few photos taken from the van window:

I went mountain biking in the Sierra Juarez mountains of Oaxaca.  If everything works out, you’ll hear more about that later this summer.  In the meantime, some photos of the pine-oak forest and the dry season foothills.

if in the late afternoon light you were to say to me,
let’s climb up that mountain and see if we can find
whether there’s a breathtaking view on top of it,
i’d bend over and tie my bootlaces a little tighter

Zion National Park, Utah

i’d then rummage through the gear stashed in the car trunk,
gathering up sleeping pads and bags, a tent for both of us
knowing that the stars would be closer to us up there
where we could wish upon them, and dream our wishes
